"Sneak Peek!"

I'm home and it is 6:30!!!!

I had a plan for today. I set my alarm to wake me up at 4:45 because I needed to go to Wal-Mart to pick up a couple of items to use to in my room. A bus driver at the school has a monograming business and was creating my door sign. I needed to purchase some cute trim to add to the border so that I could hang it in the hall. I did tell you yesterday that I HAD to finish my room today because we had a "Sneak Peek" of the classroom for our parents and students. The purpose of this is to allow parents to help bring school supplies to the school today from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Teachers would have an opportunity to meet both the parents and students on a very informal basis. Well, my alarm went off and I pressed snooze. BIG MISTAKE! You see I haven't had much sleep lately and the way my body works is that when I have been deprived of sleep over time, I have to make it up and today was the day! I was suppose to report at 7:30 am. When I woke up at 6:50, I didn't have any problem jumping out of the bed. Washing my hair was definitely out of the question, as was going to Wal-Mart. However, I did take a quick and I mean quick bath, threw on my clothes, and dabbed on only the basic foundation, blush, and mascara. Out of the door, I ran and I did run! Thank goodness I don't live far from the school and drive opposite of the traffic. I entered the school at 7:35. My day was off to a good start..........

We had breakfast at the school and then a meeting that lasted until lunch time. Yesterday, I had planned to eat a sandwich at the school and work in my room. Did I have time to make a sandwich this morning? I really needed to pick up the items that I needed from Wal-Mart. I called my husband and he had an egg and bacon sandwich ready for me when I walked in the house. I practically swallowed it whole and thanked him before heading to the store. On my way, I thought I would have a larger selection of trim from the local crafts store. I'm a flexible person, so I headed there. I'm so glad that I did. I bought a beautiful, light blue boa to use to trim my name sign. I also picked up a long skinny dowel to use as a fishing pole on my door. I also needed some finger polish remover, not for my finger nails but to remove permanent markers from laminated items. I assume that all elementary teachers know that this works. Anyway, I didn't bother looking for finger nail polish remover at the crafts store. I just figured that this would be one item that they didn't carry. I had enough time so I left the crafts store and headed for my favorite Dollar Tree. On my way, I received a phone call from the bus driver creating my door sign. She was finished and wanted to meet me to give me her handy work. She said that she needed to drive to town anyway. I was excited to see what the material looked like with the bright blue letters of my name monogrammed on it. We met and I picked up my material. It was beautiful! At this point, I was less than a mile from the school.

When I arrived back at the school, I went directly to my room and began putting things away. I still had my door to finish, my bulletin board to finish, my laminated items to cut out, and a lot of other things to hide! The only cabinets in the room are under the sink so there isn't much room to hide things. Well, I did plan ahead for this, if it happened. I had previously purchased the blue, plastic table skirt to wrap around my computer table. It is amazing how many boxes you can put under one of those tables! I even had a couple of teachers to graciously offer to help me. I am not a stupid person. I thanked them for being willing to help and started listing tasks that they could do while I tried to clean off my desk. With their help, I was finished at 3:30 pm. I thought I deserved a cup of coffee. One of the teachers had mentioned in the morning meeting that she was going to make some for the afternoon. I headed to her room with my cup! Well, she had black coffee and nothing else. I need sweet, white coffee. I took my cup of coffee and headed for the office. I did take a detour to my car. I needed to get my clothes to change before parents started to arrive. When I reached the office, I changed clothes and doctored my coffee and headed back to my room.
My students' names are blurred. See my dowel (fishing pole).

Treasures galore are under this table!

Since the doors were not locked, early arrivers were already in the hall. It wasn't 3:45....... Of course, as teachers we expect this! I began greeting my parents and students. Of the 25 names on my list, I saw 11 parents and 10 beautiful students who would become my children for this school year. Oh, what a wonderful, exciting time I had meeting this babies and talking to them. I have been so busy trying to get my room ready, I haven't had the time to think about what I would say or do. You know some things just come so naturally when you are doing something that you love and it doesn't matter how long it has been!

When 6:00 pm came, we heard a sweet voice over the intercom thanking parents and students for coming and announcing that our "SNEAK PEEK" was ending. I turned out my lights, locked my door, and headed for my car. I needed to get home and rest. Of course, I couldn't rest. I had to tell my husband all about my new babies. I had to tell my daughter. I had to tell my sister. I had to tell you!

What are my plans for tomorrow. Check back and I'll share it with you........ tomorrow.
